A rope drum hoist is a main type of electric cable hoist, which is a power-driven hoist that uses a wire rope that breezes around a drum to lift and lower loads. The rope hoist is wound in a single layer from one place to another grooved drum and guided by a ring over the drum. When the rope is dragged, it spins around the drum and lifts the item with the help of a lower-load hook.

WIRE ROPE OPERATED HOISTS AND E.O.T. CRANES
All types of crane hoists are fixed-type equipment used for lifting loads (Gates).
Electrically Operated Overhead Traveling (E.O.T.) cranes are compulsorily used for lifting and moving the load (Gates) from one place to another. Wire rope operated hoists are used for Barrage Gates, Lifting Radial Gates, Vertical Dam Gates, Stop Log Gates, and Intake Gates. Usually, E.O.T. Cranes are used for moving and Lifting Emergency Gates, Trash Rack Panels and as well used in pump houses. Pulley Wire rope operated Hoists or Cranes are mainly used when a positive thrust is not required.
Hoists can be operated manually, pneumatically driven, or electrically driven. A rope drum hoist can also be straddled on a fixed monorail, on a trolley, or on an EOT crane. When straddling a monorail, the hoist only has two commands of load motion: up or down and forward or reverse. When straddling an EOT crane, the rope drum hoist has three directions of load motion: forward or reverse, right or left, and up or down.
